I Am Willing to Become Who My Dream Requires Me to Be.

We all have our own ideas of what it means to live a full life.

The vision often begins through rose-coloured lenses. Few of us are born with the wisdom to envision a future while understanding that the path toward it will include hardships, obstacles, and challenges that will test us along the way.

With each step forward, those lenses lose their rose-coloured hue.

As we begin to take stock of the challenges along the way, we each must ask ourselves:

Will you cling to the dream?

When life reveals what pursuing the vision involves, will you honour the vision and continue the climb toward it?

I will.

I Am... committed to a life of meaning.

Suffering does not carry the same sting when you are building a life that means something to you.

All paths will include their fair share of pain. Choose the path that means so much to you that you learn to make peace with the difficulty.

If I believe in the road I am paving, somewhere and somehow, I find the capacity to withstand what comes with it.

There is a passion reserved for those pursuing purpose. Success without purpose hardly feels like achievement. Progress can hold a million and one definitions, but it lacks substance when it is attained without alignment.

The recognition and reward do not outweigh the sense of self-betrayal. It rings hollow when weighed against the vision that you sacrificed to attain it. I, for one, will not live a life tolerating the emptiness I have witnessed in those who abandoned their dreams.

I will not be comfortable with the version of life society handed me simply because it was accessible, easy, and expected.

I am choosing a life that feels like mine, because it will be the life that I create.

I Am... paying the price for the life I want.

If I have the privilege of living into old age, the best gift I can give myself is the opportunity to look back on my life with tears brimming with remembrance.

To honour the challenges for what they made of me.

To memorialize the journey, the people, and the experiences my heart carried.

To know that I made real the promise I made when I was too young to understand what it would entail:

I would live a life pursuing impact, and no matter the outcome, the integrity of that pursuit could never translate as regret.

A full life runs deeper than a highlight reel.

A full life includes moments that are raw, real, light, and dark.

True joy and fulfillment lie beneath the disappointment and exist just beyond the sting of learned experience.

Life is not misery simply because things aren't working out the way we hoped. The joy is built into the development and in the pursuit of growth.

There is joy in the journey.

There is joy in leaning into the process of becoming.

There is joy in moving forward, while trusting life to provide the signal once we have arrived where we once hoped to go.

I Am... becoming through the struggle.

I have hit what I thought to be brick walls and dead-ends.

I have seriously considered that there is a chance that I may not make it.

And then, in the moments when I wasn't confident I would push through, comes the pure, unadulterated joy of watching the barriers lift—of finding myself one step closer to where I want to be and that much further from where I've been.

There is exhaustion etched in grit.

There are tears.

There are shaking knees.

There is a mix of hope and anxiety when you are constantly faced with uncertainty.

And that is the glory.

To create a life of meaning takes more than guts.

It requires becoming someone capable of carrying the life you once imagined, which requires that you let go and allow versions of yourself to die.

I have abandoned my ego in pursuit of this vision.

The path toward this becoming continues to humble me and remind me of the flaws deeply ingrained in my humanity. Actively denying my ego has given me the freedom to live authentically, embrace vulnerability, and lean into this version of self-discovery.

This vision has broken me while awakening so much potential I never imagined would become part of this life's calling. I did not know what I had within me, waiting for the moment to rise to the surface and meet life's challenges head-on.

I am rewriting the story of my identity every day. I am discovering parts of who I am, releasing the masks and facades that I thought I had to wear.

I never considered that a prerequisite to this vision was that the version of me who birthed it would need to die away.

I Am... not who I was when I imagined this life.

And perhaps that is the part of becoming we rarely consider.

The version of ourselves that takes shape with every failed attempt and every decision to keep pushing onward.

There is so much courage and bravery built into every step toward alignment and in the direction our intuition calls us. There are rarely any accolades and the journey can be lonely, but it doesn't shake the feeling that despite those things you are exactly where you are supposed to be.

We imagine that we are pursuing a vision.

We don't always realize that the vision is giving birth to who we are becoming.

The vision is the life that keeps the fire burning in this heart of mine.

The seat of my resilience.

The source of my perseverance.

Every chapter is a revelation, offering its own affirmation that the pursuit will continue to be worth it.

Every incremental gain reminds me to go inward and ask what needs to change if life is requiring me to wait.

This tension is fulfillment.

I Am... learning to make peace with the unknown.

I am living through the highs and lows, never quite knowing what I will find in the uncertainty and the unknown—and every day making peace with the ambiguity that has become the norm.

There is nothing easy about a life well lived.

There is nothing quiet about pursuing meaning and fulfillment.

Loving the life I have lived through the things I've survived thus far has given me the courage to continue toward this vision.

With greater courage, I know I have it within me to build a life that honours the dream—and surpasses it.

I Am... willing to let the dream change me.

I may have had my ideas about what it meant to live a fulfilling life.

But I'm grateful that life proved to me that my ideas were too small.

I'm grateful that the challenges of this life forced me to see more broadly—to accept that the life waiting for me on the other side of the challenges, hardships, and adversity was more than worth the wait.

And perhaps it will forever prove to be worth the weight of the change, loss, and sacrifice required to get there.
