Giving Yourself Permission to Experience Happiness in Hard Times

Happiness is awaiting an invitation.

From you.

If there’s one truth that I’m carrying into 2025, it’s that happiness is not circumstantial, it’s intentional.

For those of you who are waiting for your situations to change before you dare to hope for happiness, I want to share some counter-intuitive wisdom: you can experience joy in best and worst of times.

It’s a choice.

When the world was crumbling around me I focused on the growth cultivating within me. Found gratitude in the fighting spirit within, that sought out the little things that brought a smile to my face.

With intention, I sought out the light in the darkest of places, and contrary to what even I could predict… the light was there, waiting on me too.

We will all experience dark times. There are these moments, while they translate differently for each of us, that have the power to extract power and beauty from within us. Every painful moment extracting potential, every bruised and battered bone a step forward in our own self-actualization.

We are each a work of art.

Every wound a story, every scar a memory of hard wars fought.

Becoming takes place in the dark.

When we develop the courage to face ourselves and make peace with where we are in our journey.

We are each, ultimately, exactly where we are supposed to be.

We shape our tomorrows with every decision that we make, shape our realities from the roads taken, and the paths we left behind.

Shaped by our habits and rituals, shaped by the thoughts and the beliefs that we entertain, as much as by those that we dismiss.

Empowered by our emotions to release, to let go… and be.

And from that state of being, making the choice to be happy.

Not in a frivolous, fleeting moment kind of way.

But In a deep, protect your soul, while protecting your peace and keeping the dark at bay.

I have experienced joy in the worst of situations, and in hindsight I think it’s so that I can give you hope.

To tell you that even the darkest corners of life’s experiences aren’t completely devoid of love and light.

To tell you with confidence, that as you work through what you go through – not to wait for whatever is coming, give yourself permission to be.

Find healing, endurance, progress, and purpose in the stillness.

Reaquaint yourself with your own presence.

Understand that it is a right we possess, this capacity to choose happiness.

Be. Happy.
