Life is going to surprise you.
Though many of those reading this piece already have first hand experience. There are no limits to the ways that life can reinforce your lack of control.
So how to respond?
Do you double-down on your plans and resist with every fibre of your being? Or, do you throw your plans out the window, abandoning yourself and your dreams to hopelessness and defeat?
The overly simplistic, but deeply profound insight that life has taught me in this journey is to cling to your dreams, but take it day by day.
Embrace that life is a flow of forward momentum, never looking back, keeping your eyes glued to the goal, or to the horizon ahead of you.
Life isn’t a performance. No matter how many people are watching, or how entertaining they may consider the series of events that unfold. We realize that what we collect in this lifetime are the moments. The moments that shape us, and that awaken the potential within us, calling us home to ourselves.
I am a reflection of a million and one mistakes.
I have taken wrong turns, I have been impulsive, careless, and dangerously oblivious to the relay between my responses and relationships, between my desires and the outcomes, as well as in my ideas on how things would go.
I have fallen many times, and figuratively broken these bones - and it’s taken the multitude of experiences I have lived, to realize that it is in these trials that I grow.
More than introspection and reflection.
Not in facilitated workshops and the discomfort in self-disclosure.
It is in being.
In living the life that life has charted for you. Whether the plans are to your liking or not.
While in pursuit of all that calls to you, remember the destination is not the end all be all.
It is the overlooked process. The growth and the development that the journey to your desired outcome, brings.
My life has surprised me in more ways than one. While now, I realize that it was never the intention. We plan our futures, ignorant to the blindspots we have in our path. Thinking that our futures can be calculated and deduced, by very simple math, and it cannot. Life will introduce the inevitable, and it is our responsibility to respond.
The odds may be in your favour, but you’re still not guaranteed a win.
Because life is not a game, with moving players on the board.
There is no preemptive move you can make, without seriously recognizing that all in all, your doing a dance with chance. And while we were never formally taught the tenets of trusting the process, it is in taking things step-by-step that we build our hope and don’t feel like
our efforts are wasted.
When it comes to this life, there are no first and second takes.
Your plans and preparation stand no chance to life’s pre-defined fates.
So lean in, don't letting go or holding too tightly to how you think things should unfold.
Breathe in, and take in each present moment.
The one thing I know is fact… life demands that we move forward.
There is no going backwards... there is no turning back.
