The Power in Being Real: Prioritizing the Desire to be Authentically You

What do you desire most?

It’s an important question to unpack.

It’s important to continuously cultivate that awareness as the things that we desire drive our behaviours.

If we want clarity on why we show up in specific ways, we need to be honest with ourselves about our underlying motivations.

We need to be candid with ourselves, because it isn’t always the case that our desires are in line with the best within us.

It isn't always the case that our desires propel us to do the things that are the best for us.

Some desires are unhealthy. Full stop.

It’s always the best-case scenario when you’re the one who makes that call.

It is often in the pursuit of our desires that we can find ourselves out of sync. Pursuing a desire to be liked, can take away from the desire to be respected. While pursuing the desire to be respected can keep you from being able to create connection. When our desires consume… we have so much more to lose.

What of the desire to be real?

So often, people convince themselves that to be themselves, would be too costly.

Overlooking the fact that being anyone else, has always had the higher price tag.

To desire anything above being authentic to yourself, should already be a note to self that further introspection is required.

Self-alignment, self-actualization, and self-awareness should be the most powerful desire to propel our behaviours, but many would say just the opposite.

There is a problem deeply embedded in the culture that forces one to deny oneself.

That makes anyone feel that to be oneself is the beginning of the end.

When the only ending that follows from honouring yourself is the masquerade.

Many have yet to fully indulge in a reality that doesn’t involve pretending. Oftentimes finding themselves striving to find the approval of the indifferent, or to cater to those who seek to benefit from the slightest scent of eagerness. There is no doom awaiting those who choose to bloom. There is no punishment too great to bear, when you give yourself permission to just be.

Maybe the invites will slow or come to a halt.

Maybe (just maybe), the ones you thought would be there, will disappointingly choose that it would be better to simply not show up.

Where there once was forced laughter, and the pressure to keep up, you’ll find yourself with an opportunity, to simply show up.

Real and authentically, with nothing to prove… and the people, places and things, you found yourself chasing, they’ll suddenly find you.

Except this time around, you’ll be aligned to your truth.

A sign that says, "This is the sign you've been looking for."
Stand in your truth.

Recognizing, in time, that the best gift you can give yourself… is simply the permission to be you.
